Showing our Solidarity

from Linda Meredith, 9/12/12

Thank You!

Many thanks to the dedicated members who joined our brothers and sisters from across New York state in Albany yesterday. We gathered together with our Superintendent and Board of Education members, parents, and students to stand with teachers who came from as far away as Buffalo because they are committed to standing up for our students. The concern is over the corporatization of public education and the obsession with standardized tests, and the union is pushing back at the State Education Department to "Get It Right!"

What do we do next? I need each of you to click on the link and send the following faxes to your legislators: truthabouttesting.org/
* Pass the Truth About Testing Act of 2013
* Stop Unnecessary K-2 Testing
* Protect Student Privacy in New York

Once you have sent your faxes, send the link to a friend, neighbor or family member and ask them to do the same. We cannot be ignored because we are fighting for our children and they do not have a voice unless we raise ours.

Again I thank the people who took time out of their busy lives to ride the bus with me yesterday, please join me in letting them know you appreciated their efforts: Debi Morgan and family, Dan Schroth, Gail Wentworth and family, Mark Shaughnessy, Heather Jackson, Katie Fitzsimmons, Helen Bolen, Autumn Sutton, Nicolynn Carroccio, Chris Cox, Heather Gullo and family, Kelley Foster and John Sheffield.

The Ed Show on MSNBC covered the story of the rally Sunday night.
